Under its formal education program Prayatn is providing quality primary education to 790 children through its three schools – Seth Vidyalaya and Project Savera at Madanpur Khadar supported by M/S Larsen &Toubro Ltd. and Adhyan Public School supported by Deloitte through United Way of Delhi. The objectives of the educational programme are increasing access to Education, retaining children in schools and ensuring achievement of age appropriate levels of learning thereby improving the educational standard of students of disadvantaged sections.
Seth Vidyalaya named after its Patron in Chief Dr. Ravi Seth, being supported by M/S Larsen Toubro Ltd setup in 2001 is a co-educational primary school providing education to 500 children belonging to underprivileged sections of society. The school makes available quality education to children of Madanpur Khadar through its well trained teachers, it adheres to the curriculum followed in MCD schools and its educational program focuses on child-centered activities and uses effective and innovative teaching aids and strategies. The school aims at holistic development of children by organizing extracurricular activities like art and craft, music, dance, drama, declamation contests, Quiz and other competition to realize and nurture the potential of each child.
Prayatn initiated Project Savera in Seth Vidyalaya premises in the afternoon for children of rag picker families from Madanpur Khadar with support from M/S Larsen & Toubro Ltd. Prayatn started a formal school where 192 students (118 boys & 74 girls) are presently being imparted Primary Education as per MCD curriculum. The objective is to make education accessible to children from rag picker families and make efforts at retaining these children and ensuring completion of primary school cycle. The school has classes Nursery to V and offers a wide range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. These activities help in enhancing learning process of students, provides opportunity to explore a range of interests and unlock their potential. It leads to higher self-esteem and improves the self-confidence of students.
Prayatn has been providing educational intervention to children of Kapashera with financial support from Deloitte through United Way of Delhi since 2015. The project Swavalamban Shiksha Kendra (SSK) comprises of Adhyan Public School - a primary school for children in the age 3-12 yrs. 201 (103 girls & 98 boys) students are provided education as per MCD curriculum through trained and experienced teachers. The objective is to ensure achievement of age appropriate essential levels of learning and preventing drop out. The functions and activities organized in the school encompass academic, social, intellectual and moral development of every child. Regular interaction and feedback from the parents help in ma king modifications wherever needed and meeting targets.
Children not acquiring age appropriate education, lacking in foundational skills like reading, writing and basic arithmetic are provided remedial education in Madanpur Khadar, Nizzamuddin and Kapashera. 55 school going student (25 girls & 30 boys) of class1 to class8 who need help with their school curriculum are provided remedial education at Seth Vidyalaya. Remedial classes for 136 (72 girls & 64 boys) school going students of Class-1 to VIII in the age6 to 15 yrs are held at SSK to prevent them from dropping out.
Education of the school going children has been severely impacted because of Covid-19. The children of Nizammudin find it difficult to adjust to new modes of learning and they are unable to engage productively as they do not understand the online material sent to them by the teachers. Their parents requested Prayatn to start tuition classes for students to prevent them from dropping out of school. Prayatn started Project Hope with the support from Seth Foundation for school going children of Nizzamuddin who are unable cope with their online lessons. 55 students of classes 6to 8 are being given academic support.
