01 · Healthcare

Health care, close to home

Our first community health centre, Swasthya Kendra, opened in 1997–98. The Swasthya Kendra at Madanpur Khadar has run since 2007 and is our flagship health programme. It treats common illnesses and provides basic maternity and child health care, family planning and referrals. Our School Health Program gave 1,192 schoolchildren check-ups and OPD care in 2025–26, and 5,736 people used the Swasthya Kendra.

02 · Education

A school of our own

Seth Vidyalaya, a co-educational primary school at Madanpur Khadar since 2009, recognised by the Department of Education, MCD, in October 2025, caters to children from the underprivileged sections of society and reaches out to 884 students.

Our Scholarship Scheme for Meritorious Students helps 26 students carry on studying.

03 · Women development

Women development

Women development is one of our three areas of direct intervention, alongside Education and Healthcare Services.

With the Azim Premji Foundation we work against gender-based violence in seven communities of Delhi, reaching 14,958 people this year, with ten Mahila Panchayats, two Crisis Management Centres, Community Resource Centres and a weekly Legal Help Desk. And through Empowering Youth as Agents of Change, 153 young people learned a trade or English.

Since 1992: 34 years of work

  1. 1992 Prayatn is founded by a group of people, to work with the disadvantaged sections of society. It begins its first education programme, with 21 non-school girls at the Nehru Place slum.
  2. 1997–98 The first community-based health centre, Swasthya Kendra, opens in the Nehru Place slum.
  3. 2002 The Nehru Place slum is relocated to Madanpur Khadar, and Prayatn shifts its base to Madanpur Khadar.
  4. 2005 Prayatn starts an education programme for non-school children in Madanpur Khadar.
  5. 2006 With support from the Seth Foundation, Prayatn buys a piece of land (1,000 sq yards) in Madanpur Khadar.
  6. 2007 Larsen & Toubro Ltd financially supports Prayatn’s education programme, and the Swasthya Kendra at Madanpur Khadar begins, today our flagship health programme.
  7. 2009 With financial support from the Seth Foundation, Prayatn constructs its own building, and Seth Vidyalaya, our primary school in Madanpur Khadar, begins. In Women Development, the first Mahila Panchayat is formed with 20 community women.
  8. 2014 Another floor is added to our building, to run various community development programmes.
  9. 2017–18 The Scholarship Scheme begins, after two girls top class V but cannot afford the journey to their new school.
  10. 2018–19 The Azim Premji Foundation begins supporting our Women Development programme, Addressing Gender-Based Violence in Communities, through the Mahila Panchayats.
  11. 2023 The School Health Clinic opens for our schoolchildren, with Samrat Offset Pvt Ltd.
  12. 2025 Empowering Youth as Agents of Change begins: skills training and English for young people. In October, Seth Vidyalaya is recognised by the Department of Education, MCD.
  13. Today Five key projects, a school that reaches out to 884 children, 26 scholars, ten Mahila Panchayats, and 14,958 people reached by our work with women.
